Loft insulation is suitable for most houses that have an accessible loft.
As insulation stops heat from escaping from the living spaces, it will actually make your loft space cooler, which could make existing damp/condensation problems worse. You should get professional advice before installation takes place as this will need to be fixed before insulating.
So, if you have any doubts at all, please ask an installer. Your local Energy Saving Trust advice centre can you put you in touch with an installer. You can call them for free on 0800 512 012.
You can - from the outside and the inside.
The best time to think about insulating a flat roof externally is when you come to renew its waterproof covering (or decorating the room). Renewing the waterproof covering should be done every 15 to 20 years.
Quite simply, it will be more cost effective and less disruptive to get the two jobs done professionally at the same time.
Insulating the outside of your roof involves laying boarding backed with insulation material either on top of or under the waterproof layer. Insulating the inside of a flat roof is also achieved using insulation backed boards and is very similar to internal solid wall insulation. Please note: this should be left to the professionals so contact your local advice centre and they can put you in touch with an installer.
