Neville Butcher

Green Ambassador 2

Neville Butcher

Neville Butcher is 49 and lives in Cheshire in a semi-detached house. He is a Computer Salesperson. He has made lots of changes around the house to improve his carbon footprint.

"I have made sure my home is well insulated by putting in cavity wall insulation and topping up my loft insulation. I have also made my own wind turbine and I have solar panels. We have 14 compost bins and we try and recycle as much as possible. I also keep chickens and grow my own vegetables."

I was interested in becoming a green ambassador as I believe that being environmentally responsible gives me a better quality of life, and helps to make a better future for my children and grandchildren. I'm planning to change all my light bulbs to energy efficient bulbs and I?m also trying to eat less meat."

Livestock farming is a major contributor to climate change. Burning fuel to produce fertiliser to grow feed, to produce meat and to transport it - and clearing vegetation for grazing - produces 9 per cent of all emissions of carbon dioxide. And animal wind and manure emit more than one third of emissions of methane, which warms the world 20 times faster than carbon dioxide. Cattle ranches are also one of the main drivers of deforestation. By eating less meat Neville would further lower his carbon footprint.
